Siraki Bests National Field

Anita Siraki, a junior at Hoover High, set a school record of 10:18.03 in winning the girls’ two-mile in the National Scholastic outdoor track and field championships Friday at North Carolina State.

Siraki beat second-place Alicia Craig of Gillette, Wyo., by more than four seconds. Craig finished in 10:22.34 and Sara Bei of Santa Rosa was third in 10:28.32.

Siraki won the 3,200 meters in the state championships on June 3 with a previous best of 10:18.50.

BASKETBALL

* Dave Munroe has rescinded his resignation as girls’ coach at Hart High and will return for a 12th season, Athletic Director Mike Herrington said.

Munroe announced in May that he had resigned for personal reasons, but he reached an agreement with Principal Gary Fuller to return as coach.

Munroe has guided the Indians to nine Foothill League championships and has an overall record of 210-85.

FOOTBALL

* Cal Lutheran will host a tribute to Tom Landry, the late Dallas Cowboys coach who had a profound impact on the university and surrounding Thousand Oaks community, on Thursday at the Hyatt Westlake Plaza in Westlake Village.

Members of the Landry family, former Cowboys and recipients of the Landry Medal, which include Art Linkletter, John Wooden and Nancy Reagan, will be in attendance. There is a reception at 6 p.m. and a dinner at 7 p.m.

For 26 years, the pro football Hall of Fame coach and the Cowboys held training camp on the Cal Lutheran campus. In honor of Landry, the university established the Landry Medal to honor individuals who provide leadership to youths through strong Christian commitments in their professional and personal lives.

Landry dedicated much of his life to helping youth through his work with various organizations.

* Hart will host a 16-team seven-on-seven passing tournament today. Games begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude with the championship game at 2 p.m.

Hart, Westlake, Kennedy, Granada Hills, Chatsworth and Valencia are among the schools competing.

BASEBALL

* Coach Tom Meusborn of Chatsworth High will conduct a camp for players ages 8-15 June 26-30 at Chatsworth. Cost is $85. Information: (818) 830-1512.

* Coach Frank Sanchez of Pepperdine is conducting four camps this summer, starting June 26-30 for players ages 7-12. There will be camps in July for players ages 8-14 and 12-16. Information: (805) 983-2018.

BASKETBALL

* Maribel Ambriz, a 5-8 senior point guard for the Rio Mesa High girls’ team, will play at Sonoma State next year.

Ambriz averaged 13.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Spartans last season.

SOCCER

* Matt LaCour has been named boys’ coach at Chatsworth.

TENNIS

* Jason Nguyen of Chatsworth defeated James Magsino of West Hills, 6-3, 6-4, in the boys’ 18 division final of the 16th annual Downey Junior Open on Sunday at the Rusty Miller Tennis Academy in Downey.

The No. 7-seeded Nguyen is a sophomore at Chatsworth High. Magsino is a junior at El Camino Real.

They teamed to win the tournament’s boys’ 16 doubles championship with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Glendale residents Vahe Assadourian and Kosmin Parker.

Unseeded Jessica Nguyen of Chatsworth defeated No. 8-seeded Ally Kasnopolsky, 7-6, 4-6, 6-1, in the girls’ 14 division final, and top-seeded Melissa Nguyen of Los Angeles, a senior at Campbell Hall, beat Ashley Maddocks of Laguna Hills, 6-2, 3-6, 6-0, for the girls’ 18 championship.
