Lockwood, Cypress Top OCC in Softball

Heidi Lockwood hit a three-run home run as visiting Cypress defeated Orange Coast, 10-2, in an Orange Empire Conference softball game Wednesday.

Sara Louwsma pitched a four-hitter for the Chargers (8-1, 2-0) and center fielder Sasha Campbell had three hits.

Tasha Thurmond had two hits and Angelia Valdez drove in two runs for Orange Coast (11-8, 0-3).

In other conference games:

Fullerton 8, Saddleback 1--Erin Kelly allowed four hits and struck out four to improve her record to 11-0 for visiting Fullerton (17-2, 2-0).

Crystal Aguirre had three hits, including a triple, and a three RBIs, for the Hornets.

Golden West 8, Irvine Valley 3--Carla Robles and Jen Reinig each had a two-run single in a seven-run first inning for Golden West (6-6, 1-2). Reinig had three hits and three RBIs for the Rustlers.

Danielle Heath (0-3) took the loss for Irvine Valley (2-6, 0-2).

Santa Ana 1, Riverside 0--Wendi Kralich went the distance, giving up three hits with no walks and striking out four for host Santa Ana (8-5, 2-1).

The Dons scored their only run with two out in the fifth inning, when Sharmaine Kendrick ran home from third while teammate Yesinia Paniague was caught in a rundown between first and second.

In Orange Empire Conference men’s golf:

Irvine Valley 390, Riverside 393, Santiago Canyon 395, Cuyamaca 414--Scott Katnik shot four-over 76 and Dan Stewart, Justin Nieman and Andy Hock each shot 78 to lift Irvine Valley (3-0 in conference) at El Prado.

Rob Clever was the medalist with a 71 for Santiago Canyon.

In nonconference men’s golf:

Santa Ana 385, Golden West 401, Cerritos 406--Dave Lauder shot a three-over 75 and teammates Corey Fox and John Magana finished one stroke behind for Santa Ana (8-2) at Los Serranos.

Trevor Jones also shot a 75 for Golden West (7-1).

In Orange Empire Conference men’s volleyball:

Golden West 3, San Diego Mesa 0--David Cornett had six blocks and Milos Obraduvic had 13 kills to lead visiting Golden West (6-3, 2-1) to a 15-4, 15-10, 15-6 victory.

Orange Coast 3, Palomar 0--Brad Evans had 14 kills for Orange Coast (2-1), which won, 15-7, 15-8, 15-0.
