Chatsworth Overpowers No. 1 Hart, 8-3

All-City shortstop Matt Fisher hit two home runs and had three runs batted in to power Chatsworth High to an 8-3 victory over Hart, ranked No. 1 in the region by The Times, in a Westside tournament game Saturday at Hart.

Fisher smashed a solo home run to left field in the first inning and added a two-run blast over the 368-foot sign in left-center field in the fifth.

Sophomore left fielder Brian Lee had three hits and two RBIs for the Chancellors (2-0).

Sophomore left-hander Joe Guntz (1-0) pitched a five-hitter, had four strikeouts and allowed no earned runs for Chatsworth.

Designated hitter Jared Halpert had two hits, including a double, for the Chancellors.

Ryan Haag scored twice for Hart (1-1).

In other Westside tournament games:

Canyon 2, Camarillo 1--Adam Rondou singled home the winning run with one out in the seventh inning at Canyon.

Rondou finished with two hits and two RBIs, and Matt Wigdor had two hits and scored twice for the Cowboys (1-1).

Left-hander Chris Seddon of Canyon pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

Seddon walked in a run that pulled Camarillo (1-1) into a 1-1 tie in the the seventh.

Ventura 5, Culver City 4--Erik Robinson had three RBIs, including the game-winner on a single in the seventh inning for the Cougars (2-0) at Ventura.

Channel Islands 0, Calabasas 0--Eric Rodriguez pitched a five-hitter and had 12 strikeouts for the Raiders in a game that was called after nine innings because of darkness at Calabasas.

Calabasas (1-0-1) pitcher Justin Segal pitched a five-hitter, getting nine strikeouts and walking one.

Saugus 8, Westchester 1--Wes Travis’ two-run double capped a five-run second inning for the Centurions (1-0-1) at Saugus.

Saugus (1-0-1) scored first on Matt Underwood’s run-scoring double, followed by Ryan Lindgreen’s two-run home run.

Casey Benesch pitched a five-hitter, walking one and striking out six for the Centurions.

In the San Fernando Valley tournament:

Highland 4, Thousand Oaks 3--John Santor hit a grand slam in the sixth inning and the Bulldogs knocked off the Lancers at Thousand Oaks.

Chris Cordeiro allowed no hits through five innings with one walk and eight strikeouts for Thousand Oaks (1-1), ranked No. 2 in the region by The Times.

Bill Lockin hit a solo home run for Thousand Oaks.

Highland (2-0) is ranked No. 6.

Lancaster 10, Glendale 5--Tony Ortiz had four hits, three stolen bases, and three runs to help the Eagles (2-0) win at Lancaster.

Paraclete 6, Antelope Valley 2--Jason Brown had 15 strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter for the Spirits in a victory at Paraclete (1-1).

Quartz Hill 9, Burbank 4--Andrew Locke went three for three, including a triple, and Travis Taylor (1-0) pitched 4 2/3 innings of strong relief for Rebels (2-0) in a victory at Quartz Hill.

Palmdale 11, Notre Dame 9--Rob Arellano had two hits, an RBI and scored twice for the Falcons in a victory at Palmdale.

James Rivero hit a double and a home run for Notre Dame (0-2).

Cody Oldham had two two hits, a stolen base and scored once, and Craig Briggs hit a solo home run for Palmdale (2-0).

In other games:

West Torrance 9, Simi Valley 5--Eric Peach had a double, a triple and two RBIs for the Pioneers (1-1) in an El Segundo tournament loss at Simi Valley.

Montclair Prep 14, South El Monte 0--Seth Epstein pitched a no-hitter for the Mounties in a Montebello tournament game that was called after five innings at South El Monte because of the mercy rule.

Epstein struck out nine and Paul Dement had three hits and four RBIs for Montclair Prep (1-0).

St. Bonaventure 3, Nordhoff 1--David Garza had two hits and two RBIs, and Gilbert Infante had eight strikeouts in four innings for the Seraphs (1-0) in a nonleague game at Nordhoff.

Lancaster Desert Christian 10-19, Frazier Mountain 0-0--Dustin Schramm homered in both games and pitched a one-hitter in the second as the Knights (2-0) swept a nonleague doubleheader at Lancaster Desert Christian.
