Porter Gets Winning Hit for Kennedy

Brooke Porter’s two-run triple in the 10th inning lifted Kennedy to a 2-0 victory over Cypress in the championship game of the Cypress softball tournament Monday at Cypress Arnold Park.

Porter’s triple scored Michelle Turner and Jennifer McCard with no outs in the top of the inning. The game had been suspended Saturday night when the lights went out.

Turner (4-0) pitched the final inning to earn the complete-game victory for the Fighting Irish (4-0). Turner gave up two hits and struck out 13.

In the Saddleback Valley tournament:

Trabuco Hills 3, Orange Lutheran 1 (6 innings, time limit)--Genvielle Decicco had three hits, including a triple and an RBI for Trabuco Hills (1-0) in the first round.

Jessica Edwards (0-1) struck out nine for Orange Lutheran (0-1).

In nonleague softball:

Rancho Alamitos 1, Orange 0--Katie DeHoog scored the winning run in the top of the sixth for Rancho Alamitos (4-1) on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Kristina Hyllested. Orange falls to 3-1.

In nonleague baseball:

Santiago 9, Laguna Beach 4--Starting pitcher Rene Rangel had two hits, including a home run and three RBIs, and also picked up the victory after a shaky first inning, for visiting Santiago (3-3).

Danny Florido hit a three-run home run and Brian Pilkington hit a two-run home run and got his first save for the Cavaliers.

In nonleague boys’ golf:

Calvary Chapel 221, Troy 254--Sophomore Wes Babbi shot a four-over 40 for host Calvary Chapel (2-3), at Rancho San Joaquin.

Troy’s Tom Preston was medalist, shooting 38.

Tustin 204, Kennedy 211--Sophomore Matt Isaacson shot a one-over 37 for Tustin (7-0) at Tustin Ranch.

In nonleague boys’ tennis:

Aliso Niguel 17, El Toro 1--Jason Mednick swept the No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, for Aliso Niguel (3-2). El Toro falls to 2-4.

Marina 10, Costa Mesa 8--Sophomore Jared Haley swept without losing a game for host Marina (3-1).

In nonleague girls’ track:

San Clemente 69, Laguna Hills 67--Sophomore Marquita Taylor won the 100 (12.3), 200 (25.7) and ran on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams for visiting San Clemente (2-0).

In nonleague boys’ volleyball:

Bolsa Grande 3, Santa Ana Valley 0--Jon James had 12 kills for host Bolsa Grande (3-0), which won 15-5, 15-1, 15-6.

Cypress 3, Long Beach St. Anthony 0--Justin Lee had eight kills for host Cypress (3-0), which won, 15-4, 15-9, 15-3.

Santa Ana 3, Rancho Alamitos 2--Mike Mendoza had 13 kills and Omar Aduna had 11 kills for host Santa Ana (3-1), in a 15-9, 8-15, 15-11, 1-15, 15-10 victory.
