Brea Olinda 47, Pleasanton Amador Valley 34--The most storied basketball program in Orange County won its eighth state title with a strong defensive effort in the Division II championship.

Brea (29-6), which had more losses this season than any Ladycat team since 1981, closed by winning 21 of its final 22 games, climaxing in the third consecutive state championship, defeating Amador Valley (26-6) for the second year in a row.

Brea’s defense held Amador Valley’s best player, Mia Fisher, who averaged 24.2 points per game, to three points in the first half--and still trailed, 19-18. The reason? Brea went the last 5:14 without a point.

But down the stretch, Brea center Chelsea Trotter came through, closing her high school career with a flourish. Trotter scored eight points in a row and had 10 in the fourth quarter, giving her a game-high 16 to go with 13 rebounds. She also had two blocks and a steal.
