City officials are concerned that a new 5,000-square-foot building in Olinda Village has a lighter shade of roofing than what was agreed to.
The Planning Commission voted 3 to 1 last week to block construction of the project, and the matter is set to go to the City Council on appeal Tuesday.
Planning Commissioner Don Schweitzer, the only member to have gone out and looked at the roof, voted in favor of letting construction proceed.
“I didn’t want to deny it,” he said. “I thought it was more important for the building to get finished.”
Commissioners Richard Creagh, Bill Madden and Tom Prenovost disagreed, saying the original agreement, calling for buff-colored roofing, should be respected. Commissioner Ron Garcia was absent.
