Helping Hand for Chatsworth

After stumbling twice last week, Chatsworth High appears to be heading in the right direction.

It didn’t hurt to receive help from Birmingham.

The Chancellors had 13 hits and took advantage of five errors during an 11-3 victory Tuesday in a West Valley League baseball opener at Chatsworth.

The offensive outburst couldn’t have come at a better time for the Chancellors (6-1-1), ranked No. 7 in the region by The Times.

“This was big for us, especially after the last two games,” first baseman Jacob Ball said. “We needed to win this game and we knew we had to play with a lot of intensity.”

After a loss to Carson and a tie with Kennedy last week, there was no shortage of intensity from the start against Birmingham (5-3).

The Chancellors took a 6-0 lead after two innings. Brett Munson’s two-run single fueled a three-run first inning for Chatsworth. Ryan Barba doubled and Gregg Wallis singled to start a three-run second.

“Everybody contributed and we were able to execute well,” said Coach Tom Meusborn of Chatsworth. “The bottom part of our lineup did a nice job.”

Sean Richards (3-1) of Chatsworth allowed nine hits and struck out five.
