Re “Black Latinos’ Double Burden,” by Sharon Woodson-Bryant, Voices, April 22: Time and time again, I’ve seen African Americans rather than Latinos champion the rights of Afro Latinos. Why aren’t Latinos pursuing this cause? After all, Latinos of African descent were culturally influential and crucial to the early development of every Spanish-speaking country in the Western Hemisphere.
Moreover, genealogical researchers like Lyman D. Platt have ascertained that the black race is spread throughout the lineages of most Latinos, albeit thin and remote.
