Barry Likes Chances Again on Home Court

The Lakers have seen the difference the Arco Arena fans have made on the Sacramento Kings. They definitely have heard it.

After Sacramento’s 99-91 victory in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series, the Kings have beaten the Lakers twice and lost to them by one point at home, including regular-season games.

“We’re a completely different ballclub in this arena,” King guard Jon Barry said. “It’s so evident . . . we feed off this crowd’s energy.”

Except for the fans seated behind the Laker bench, who rang cowbells and set off miniature emergency sirens during timeouts, the crowd’s enthusiasm varied.

“I think they were a little apprehensive early, because I don’t think they really believed,” Barry said. “With the way we played down [in Los Angeles], I don’t blame them, because it was ugly and they took it too us and we looked like we didn’t belong. I think as the game went on in the fourth quarter, they realized that, hey, we can do this and they got into it. It was fun.”

The Lakers have stayed with single coverage on Chris Webber for most of the series, and he is averaging 26.3 points.

“If I was a coach, I’d double him,” King guard Jason Williams said. “I don’t care who’s on my team. I would. But [Phil Jackson has] got all the [championship] rings, I don’t have any, so he can do what he wants.”

Williams’ flashy and loose style of play has drawn criticism--and increasingly frequent stays on the bench, especially in the fourth quarter. But he isn’t about to change.

“I really don’t care what people say about my game,” Williams said. “I know I’m going to make mistakes, my teammates know, coaches know it. They know I’m going to play hard and I’m going to do whatever to help my team.”

Webber is focused on tonight’s Game 4.

“Nothing matters,” he said. “Training camp doesn’t matter. Yesterday doesn’t matter. Your sign doesn’t matter--Pisces, Aquarius--it’s just about coming to play. We just have to come and play. There’s no secret to it.”

Reserve forward Tyrone Corbin is listed as questionable for tonight’s game because of a strained left knee he suffered in Game 3.

He said he was a little sore after practice Monday.

“I think I will at least dress, and we’ll see from there,” he said. “If I can help the team in any way, we can do it.”

Barry sounded miffed about the quotes coming from the Laker locker room after Sunday’s game.

“They felt like they gave us the game,” Barry said. “Basically, they gave us no credit.”

And Barry was not guilty of misinterpreting the Laker statements, as Shaquille O’Neal made evident Monday when he reiterated, “We gave it to them.”
