BASKETBALL

* Pepperdine has signed two players to letters of intent and a third is expected to join the Waves soon.

Micah McKinney, a 6-3 point guard from Dominguez High, and Michael Hall, a 6-3 guard from San Bernardino Pacific High, have signed.

Hall was a high school teammate of Will Kimble, a forward for Pacific who committed to Pepperdine in the fall.

Expected to sign with the Waves is Glen McGowan, a 6-8 forward from Notre Dame Academy in Pittsburg, Mass.

DIVING

* Leanne Dumais of Buena High and the Trojan Dive Club finished second in the girls’ 16- to 18-year-olds’ division of the one-meter springboard competition at the Junior Olympics West National Championships over the weekend at USC.

Dumais, a freshman at Buena, scored 363.40 points to finish behind Tiffany Manning of Capistrano Valley High and the Mission Viejo Nadadores. Manning scored 385.10 points.

Ashley Rubenstein of the Lightning Diving Team of Missouri was third with 352.70 points.

Dwight Dumais, Leanne’s brother, placed third in the boys’ 14- and 15-year-olds’ division on the three-meter springboard.

Dumais scored 422.10 points to finish behind Michael Hilde, who had 451.20 points, and Brad Kern, who finished at 439.60.

Josh Joffred of Thousand Oaks and the Trojan Dive Club finished sixth with 368.55 points.

FYI

* The Master’s College will host two summer volleyball camps for girls 12-18. The camps will be directed by Coach Karen Peterson of the Master’s and will include instruction in movement, serving, passing, setting, spiking, blocking, defensive skills and teamwork.

An evening camp is scheduled for 6-9 p.m. on June 19-22.

A day camp is scheduled for 9-4 on July 24-27.

* Tryouts for the Simi Valley Champions’ club basketball team for girls in fourth through seventh grades are scheduled for next week in the Simi Valley High gym.

Tryouts will run from 6:30-8:15 p.m. on May 9 and May 11, and from 8-10 a.m. May 13.

No previous experience is necessary. The club competes in tournaments and leagues from June through early August.
