Winning Streak Stopped by San Jose, 4-3

Chris Mears gave up four runs in the fifth inning as the Lancaster JetHawks had a winning streak stopped at three games by the San Jose Giants, 4-3, Tuesday in a California League game at Municipal Stadium in San Jose.

Mike Abate had two hits and drove in Bo Robinson in the fourth inning to give Lancaster (20-13) a 1-0 lead.

Joe Horgan (6-1) gave up four hits and no earned runs with three strikeouts in seven innings for San Jose (13-20).

Guillermo Martinez had two hits for Lancaster.

Lancaster went into Tuesday’s games leading the South Division. Visalia and Modesto, both A’s affiliates, were tied at 20-12 for the North Division lead.

JetHawks’ outfielder Juan Silvestre continues to lead the league in runs batted in. His 41 RBIs are 12 more than the nearest hitter. Brandon Parker has nine saves to lead the league. Silvestre’s nine homers are tied for the league lead.

Outfielder Terrmel Sledge is second in batting with a .395 average. Ryan Luther of Bakersfield leads the league with a .397 average. The JetHawks have a .290 team average. Silvestre is batting .372, Robinson is at .353 and middle infielder Willie Bloomquist, who was promoted to triple-A Tacoma last week, hit .375 as a JetHawk.
