In other Orange League games:

Western 7, Savanna 2--Host Western (13-12, 9-6) clinched third place in the league with the help of two home runs. Chris Jackson had a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Andre Granda hit a home run in the fifth.

In the Century League:

No. 1 Villa Park 11, Santa Ana Valley 1 (6, mercy)--Senior first baseman Jeff Tuttle hit his seventh homer and Dan Reid (8-0) struck out six for the host Spartans (24-2, 14-1).

Canyon 20, Orange 2 (5, mercy)--Chad Heistermann and Mike Whipple had three hits each for the host Comanches (14-12, 9-6). Orange is 10-16, 3-2.

In the Empire League:

No. 9 Kennedy 8, Katella 0--Junior pitcher Robby Legro (2-4) retired the first 12 batters, struck out 11 in five innings and had four hits and two runs batted in as the Fighting Irish (18-7-1, 11-3-1) won their first league title since 1993. Teammate Steve Yaden set a school record with his sixth triple of the season. Katella is 15-11, 7-8.

In the Freeway League:

Buena Park 4, La Habra 1 (8)--Rudy Padilla hit a bases-loaded double in the eighth to give Buena Park (13-11, 8-7) the win.

Fullerton 7, Troy 1--Senior Danny Matson (6-4) pitched a complete game for Fullerton (11-12-1, 7-8) and gave up one run on four hits. Jimmy Waninger had two hits and three RBIs, and David Schatz hit a three-run double for the Indians.

Sunny Hills 8, Sonora 3--Nathan Hochgesang (6-5) pitched a complete game and hit a solo home run in the sixth inning for host Sunny Hills (14-12, 8-7). Erik Estrada had three hits--including a leadoff home run in the first inning--and three RBIs for Sonora (16-10, 8-7).

In the Garden Grove League:

No. 2 La Quinta 10, Rancho Alamitos 1--Jeff Moscoso drove in five runs and pitcher Jim Garvey (9-1) won his ninth game in 10 decisions for the league champion Aztecs (25-2, 11-1). Rancho Alamitos is 5-20, 3-9.

Santiago 11, Bolsa Grande 1 (5, mercy)--Santiago (14-10, 8-4) clinched second place with the victory. Lee Sutherland had a home run, a single and four RBIs and Daniel Florido had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs for the Cavaliers.

In the Golden West League:

Tustin 7, Ocean View 6--Chris Hanson hit his eighth home run to set a school season record for league champion Tustin (16-7-2, 11-1). Tyler Kreil (4-6) took the loss for the visiting Sea Hawks (9-16-2, 4-9).

Westminster 7, Santa Ana 6--Junior Fred Rodriguez had two doubles and three singles, and also earned his ninth victory in 10 decisions for the second-place Lions (14-9, 10-2). Santa Ana is 9-17, 3-9.

In the Olympic League:

Cerritos Valley Christian 5, Whittier Christian 4--The league champion Crusaders (16-8, 12-3) scored on an error in the seventh as Peter Eberhardt (5-3) took the loss for the second-place Heralds. Gary Anderson hit a three-run homer for Whittier Christian (14-9, 10-5).

In the Sea View League:

Aliso Niguel 17, Newport Harbor 10--Adam Tanos had three doubles, two RBIs and three runs, Kyle Mowery had a home run and four RBIs and Darren Pitchford had a home run, a double and drove in two runs for visiting Aliso Niguel (11-14, 8-8).

In the Sunset League:

No. 6 Fountain Valley 5, Esperanza 2--Casey Janssen (6-2) struck out 10 and also hit his school-record 12th home run of the season as the Barons (17-9, 8-7) secured a third-place finish and an automatic Southern Section playoff berth. Sophomore Josh Bartusick had three hits, including his seventh home run. Matt Campbell (3-1) took the loss for second-place Esperanza (19-7, 10-5).

Los Alamitos 7, Marina 0--Chico Velasquez drove in three runs and Mike Desena (5-3) struck out five for the league champion Griffins (16-10, 11-4).

In nonleague baseball:

Laguna Beach 11, Saddleback 1 (6, mercy)--John Verdugo, Ryan Schissler and Jimmy Bobst homered for the host Artists (10-12). Saddleback is 7-18.
