Sizemore to Leave Lancers for Moorpark

Bill Sizemore resigned Wednesday as baseball coach at Thousand Oaks High, effective at the end of the season, to take a position as an assistant at Moorpark College.

Sizemore has coached the Lancers for five seasons.

Thousand Oaks is 21-6 heading into Friday’s first-round playoff game against Westminster.

BASKETBALL

* Sidney Hampton, a 6-foot-4 guard-forward from Valley View High in Moreno Valley, has signed with Cal State Northridge.

Hampton, who averaged 21 points, was honorable mention on the McDonald’s All-American team. “Sidney is a very skilled athlete and a great shooter,” Coach Bobby Braswell said.

GOLF

* Tasha Browner of Tarzana won the 77th Los Angeles Women’s Championship by two strokes on the Harding and Wilson courses in Griffith Park.

Browner, 19, who plays out of MountainGate Country Club in Los Angeles, shot 82-75-76--233.

Leslie Wilk of Woodland Hills Country Club was fifth at 80-76-84--240 and Carla Loomis of Hansen Dam Golf Course was ninth at 87-78-85--250.

TRACK AND FIELD

* Cal State Northridge received letters of intent or commitments from six athletes, including Fred Williams of Taft High and Kenan Jackson of Cleveland.

Williams leads the City Section with times of 10.68 in the 100 meters and 21.23 in the 200. Jackson has a best in the 110 high hurdles of 14.44.

Sprinters Lamont Long of San Diego University City, Dante Washington of Fresno Clovis West and Artis Carhee of El Camino College and high jumper-triple jumper Jason Romero of Ganesha High also committed to Northridge.

Larry and Lawrence Jones, former 400 runners at Taft, are transferring to Northridge from Michigan State.
