A 50-year-old man was shot and another man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder during a wedding reception in Fillmore Saturday night, authorities said.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. behind the Fillmore-Piru Veteran’s Memorial Building at the corner of 2nd Street and Central Avenue, authorities said.

The victim, who authorities refused to identify, was taken by ambulance to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the torso and was in very critical condition on arrival at the hospital, officials said.

“He was talking and conscious on scene but rapidly deteriorated on the way to the hospital,” said John Everlove, a supervisor for American Medical Response.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested one man but authorities declined to release his name.

“There was an argument and a drunk person went home and came back with a gun,” according to a sheriff’s dispatcher.

Authorities remained on the scene late Saturday gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses.
