LaShaunda Fowler of Cal State Northridge, who helped the Matadors win their second consecutive women’s title in the Big Sky Conference track and field championships at Cal State Sacramento last weekend, will use the 2001 season as a redshirt year.

Fowler, a junior, won the 100 meters in 11.92 and the long jump in a career-best 19-10 3/4, placed third in the 100 high hurdles in 13.98 and fourth in the 200 in 24.66 in the Big Sky meet.

She also ran the first leg on teams that won the 400 relay in 45.29 and the 1,600 relay in 3:42.38, helping Northridge defeat runner-up Weber State, 160-148 1/2.

“The plan is to redshirt next year so she can concentrate completely on track as a senior,” Northridge Coach Don Strametz said.

Fowler has played basketball and run track her first three years at Northridge.
