Crash Ends Race, Woods Gets Win
Tim Woods held off three late challenges to win the crash-marred first of two 50-lap Super Late Model events before 5,398 at Irwindale Speedway Saturday. Rookie Ben Walker won the second.
Woods, racing in his Chino Hills Ford Taurus, held the lead for most of the race, which was stopped on lap 41 after Kazuto Yanagawa was pushed into the wall on the third turn and his car burst into flames. Yanagawa, from Japan, was sent to a Duarte hospital for observation.
In the 40-lap Super Stocks main event, T.K. Karvasek of North Hills held off Long Beach’s Jeff Green, and Ross Upman of Hawaiian Gardens won the 15-lap Mini-Stock main event.
