Dashing Knud Wins Golden State Futurity

Dashing Knud doesn’t look like he’s going to lose this season.

And he certainly wasn’t going to let a filly like Secret Card, which posted the best qualifying time, steal his thunder Friday night in the feature race at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Dashing Knud, a gray gelding, broke from the No. 6 post position and raced to a 1 1/4-length victory over Secret Card in the $524,708 Golden State Futurity.

It was the sixth consecutive victory for Dashing Knud.

Ridden by Dusty Stimpson, Dashing Knud dueled for the early lead with Secret Card and All American Jewel, which faded badly in the final 100 yards.

Midway through the 400-yard race, Dashing Knud found another gear. He drew off to win in a time of 19.75 seconds.

Sent off as the 6-5 favorite, Dashing Knud returned $4.60 to win. The $220,377 winner’s share of the Golden State Futurity purse raises Dashing Knud’s career bankroll to $468,604.

“He broke excellent tonight, which was the key because he gets better as he runs further,” Stimpson said.

Trained by Danny Cardoza for owners Gordon Knudsen and Vessels Stallion Farm, Dashing Knud’s winning streak began July 15 and has included titles in the Ed Burke Memorial Futurity and Goetta Handicap.

Dutch Masters III’s Secret Card finished second under jockey Oscar Andrade. The Jaime Gomez trainee has competed in four Grade 1 races this season.

Corona Cocktail was third, followed by Approved To Fly, Velvet Meter, All American Jewel, Oh Bobbette, More Heart, Serenity Dash and Corona Cutie.
