Secure All Loads
* Re “2 Moorpark Teens Killed, 3 Injured in Crash,” Oct. 22.
It is important that we not see this terrible and fully preventable tragedy as an accident.
The offending ladder did not just happen upon the highway accidentally. Some irresponsible person loaded it onto his or her vehicle and then thoughtlessly failed to secure it.
This was not an unfortunate accident. At the very least, it is reckless endangerment and, at most, it is criminal negligence.
All loads should be required by law to be properly secured. The consequences of not doing so are too great, as we see again and again.
My deepest sympathies are extended to the families and friends of these young people.
