RIO HONDO LEAGUE
La Canada 36, Monrovia 27--Patrick Perrigue scored two touchdowns and blocked a point-after kick to help the Spartans (9-1, 5-0) win their first league title since 1987 at Monrovia.
Perrigue scored on a 54-yard pass from Eric Young with 17 seconds left in the first quarter to give La Canada a 14-0 lead. Perrigue’s two-yard touchdown run with 1:26 left in the second quarter extended the lead, 21-14.
Perrigue finished with five receptions for 105 yards. He blocked a point-after attempt early in the fourth quarter, allowing the Spartans stay ahead, 28-27.
Young completed 10 of 15 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns, two to Lonnie Deitz.
Monrovia (6-2-2, 2-1-2) had its string of four consecutive league titles snapped.
