MOTOR RACING ROUNDUP
Ron Peterson of San Bernardino held on to win the Mechanix Wear Speed Trucks final before 3,704 at Irwindale Speedway.
Darren Young of Phoenix finished second and won the season points championship--10 points ahead of Peterson.
Peterson had a half-lap lead on Young for the second half of the 100-lap race.
Young had a chance to win after the first and only caution flag was called on lap 91. However, he was unable to make the pass.
“I kept hoping for a late flag, because he had such a big lead,” Young said. “But catching him was one thing, passing him was another.”
Said Peterson: “I just stuck it out and made sure I didn’t get hit in those last laps,” he said.
In earlier races, Jim Kalawaia won the Legends race and Eddie Secord of Lakeside won the MSRA Pro Four Modifieds.
