A wind-whipped fire scorched up to five acres of brush in a remote area in the hills above Chatsworth Wednesday night, but caused no injuries and did not threaten homes, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire broke out just before 6 p.m. and burned south of the 118 Freeway near Santa Susana Pass and the Ventura County line.

It was contained by 8 p.m.

Although it burned as close as a mile to homes, none were ever threatened by flames, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells.

More than 125 firefighters from Los Angeles city and L.A. and Ventura counties battled flames on the ground and from helicopters above the rugged area.

Wells said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
