UCI’s Kuntz, Fullerton’s Oughton Are Honored

UC Irvine’s George Kuntz and Cal State Fullerton’s Duncan Oughton were named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Pacific Division coach and player of the year in men’s soccer.

Kuntz led the Anteaters to a 12-8-1 record and a second-place finish in the division. Oughton had 17 goals to help the Titans win the division.

Fullerton’s David Dischner, Ray Ramirez, Ricky Melendez, Kris Hulgreen and Art Ramirez were named first-team All-Pacifc Division. Irvine’s Lawrence Smalls and Jon Spencer were named to the first team. Irvine’s Eric Monterastelli, Brad Aspey and Aaron Colacion and Fullerton’s Shaun Higgins were named to the second team.

BASKETBALL

Autumn Matthews became the second player in a week to leave the UC Irvine women’s basketball team, leaving the Anteaters with only nine players for their game tonight at UC Riverside.

Coach Mark Adams confirmed that the 6-foot sophomore forward from Cool, Calif. was no longer with the team.

Junior forward Krissy Duperron, formerly of Woodbridge High, announced earlier that she will not play because of a foot injury.

* Marisa Emde, a graduate of Marina High and a senior guard for the women’s basketball team at Vanguard, has quit the squad, Athletic Director Bob Wilson said. In a letter to Wilson, Emde cited philosophical differences with her coach.
