Sloppy Sylmar Grinds Down Chatsworth
Chatsworth High stayed competitive with unbeaten Sylmar for a half by forcing two turnovers, but the Spartans eventually ground out a 28-14 nonleague victory Friday at Chatsworth.
Isidro Medina rushed for touchdowns of one, two and two yards, finishing with 71 of Sylmar’s 325 rushing yards in 11 carries.
The Spartans (5-0) were penalized 15 times for 132 yards in what Coach Jeff Engilman described as “a terrible football game.”
Chatsworth (1-4) scored on the second play of the game when quarterback Jason Moss connected with wide receiver Mike Moreno on a 69-yard pass play.
Moss later connected with wide receiver Fred Brewer on a 35-yard pass play to cut Sylmar’s lead to 21-14 with 3:57 remaining in the third quarter.
Medina then scored for the third time, set up by Donnell Livingston’s 59-yard run. Livingston finished with 85 yards in seven carries.
Moss completed five of 16 passes for 149 yards and rushed 14 times for 71 yards.
