A 10-year-old girl was fatally wounded Sunday in a gang-related shooting that also killed an 18-year-old man who was the likely target, a police spokesman said.

Los Angeles Police Department Officer Don Cox said the gunmen fled immediately after the shooting at East 1st and Clarence streets at 6 p.m. Sunday.

The man died at the scene, police said. The girl was transported to a local hospital and died there.

“He was probably the intended victim,” Cox said. “She was just an innocent bystander. She was just standing there.”

Police interviewed witnesses and were developing leads in the case.

In a separate incident, a 9-year-old girl was in stable condition Sunday after being wounded in a similar shooting in Pacoima that Cox said took place Saturday night.

The girl was hit when a bullet intended for a rival gang member pierced the wall of her home, police said.

They did not release the names of the victims.
