Don’t look now, but here comes Antelope Valley.

A slow starter in recent seasons, the traditional area power is 4-1 after a toned-down nonleague schedule.

The result is a reasonably healthy roster and renewed confidence.

The defense is one of the region’s best, allowing 211 yards a game. The Antelopes limited Clark Flournoy of Serrano, an All-Southern Section running back, to 89 yards in 31 carries last week in a 36-12 victory. Serrano earlier defeated Golden League teams Quartz Hill and Lancaster.
