Staley Out for Season After Surgery

Philadelphia Eagle running back Duce Staley will miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery Tuesday to repair his injured right foot.

Staley suffered the injury in a 38-10 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 1. The surgery was performed by specialist Dr. Evan Ekman in Columbia, S.C.

Staley had not missed an NFL game, and started 29 consecutive games before missing Sunday’s game against Washington.

Also Tuesday, the Eagles signed running back Amp Lee to a one-year contract to replace Staley on the roster.

The Washington Redskins fined receiver Albert Connell an undisclosed amount for arguing with his position coach, Terry Robiskie, during Sunday’s 17-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Robiskie and Connell shouted at each other on the sidelines and were separated by members of the team.

Redskin Coach Norv Turner said the matter was settled and that Connell will play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

Also Tuesday, the Redskins signed rookie kicker Kris Heppner to a one-year contract. He replaced Michael Husted, who missed four of eight field-goal attempts.

The Chicago Bears put tight end/fullback John Allred on the injured reserve list and re-signed Scott Dragos, who plays the same positions. Allred was lost for the remainder of the season when he tore knee ligaments on a tackle against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. . . . The San Francisco 49ers put defensive lineman Junior Bryant and safety John Keith on injured reserve. Keith had surgery to insert stabilizing pins into the radius and ulna bones in his right forearm after snapping them while making a tackle Sunday against Oakland. He is expected to be sidelined 10-12 weeks. Bryant injured his neck against St. Louis on Sept. 17, and will be out for the rest of the season. . . . The Atlanta Falcons put rookie offensive tackle Michael Thompson on injured reserve and signed offensive lineman Evan Pilgrim. Thompson tore his right Achilles’ tendon in the first quarter of Sunday’s 13-6 loss to the New York Giants.
