Monroe Forfeits Win for Ineligible Player

Share

Monroe High’s football team has been forced to forfeit its only victory of the season because it used an ineligible player.

It’s the third time in a year the Vikings (0-5) have broken City Section rules. The school could face additional sanctions because it was already on probation for rules violations.

Pam Hamashita, assistant principal at Monroe, said the Vikings forfeited a 49-0 victory over Cleveland on Sept. 22 for using an ineligible player.

Last year, the Vikings forfeited all six of their victories because of an ineligible player. Coach Chris Richards returns to the sideline tonight after serving a two-game suspension for allowing a non-Monroe student to practice with the team. The Vikings forfeited a game Sept. 16 to Canoga Park when they failed to bring players’ medical cards to the game.

Louie Procopio, strong safety at Notre Dame and a key player for the region’s top-ranked defense, has been lost for the season after breaking his wrist this week in practice.
