THE LOCALS
No. 13 UCLA (4-1) at California (1-4)
* Kickoff: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Stadium, Berkeley. There is no live television.
* Story line: UCLA is coming off its bye week looking for its first road victory since beating Washington two years ago, a stretch of seven games. California has lost four in a row since defeating Utah in the Sept. 9 season opener.
* UCLA update: The Bruins continue to do their best work in the second half, especially in the third quarter where they have outscored the opposition, 66-24. UCLA is 17-4 under Coach Bob Toledo when a Bruin rushes for 100 yards or more.
* Cal update: Cal is struggling because it can’t find the end zone. Case in point: last week at Arizona State, Joe Igber rushed for 181 yards in 15 carries, including an 80 jaunt in the fourth quarter--and the Bears scored 10 points.
* Edge to UCLA: Despite the loss of leading rusher DeShaun Foster (broken hand) against Arizona State two weeks ago, the Bruins are refreshed and motivated. Last season Cal blanked the Bruins, 17-0, at the Rose Bowl. It was Cal’s first shutout of UCLA in 36 years.
* Line: UCLA by 11.
