Forget medicine and ice packs. Winning is the perfect cure, if you ask Kyle Bauer of Valencia.

The senior quarterback’s throwing hand swelled to almost twice its size last week after he rolled on it after getting hit early in the third quarter against Saugus.

With little feel for the ball, Bauer finished a career night, completing 27 of 42 passes for 335 yards and three touchdowns.

The last was to Nick Scott with four seconds left to give the Vikings (5-1) a 20-14 victory.

“Everything goes away when you win,” said Bauer, who didn’t throw in practice this week until Tuesday.

“I felt so good I ran down and tackled Scott [in celebration].”

Lancaster will honor former lineman Majdy Haddad on Friday night during its homecoming ceremonies.

Haddad, 1999 Golden League lineman of the year, and a co-worker were shot to death last month during a hold-up.

After Haddad’s death, lineman Daniel Meza gave up his No. 77 jersey, Haddad’s former number.

“He took his home and away jerseys to the dry cleaners, had them pressed and came back to me and asked for another number,” Coach Troy Jackson said.

The jersey will be framed and hung in the school’s gymnasium.
