Rik Smits is coming out of retirement--but not to play for the Indiana Pacers.

Smits, who announced his retirement in September, will play three games in November for the Dutch national team.

Now that chronic foot and knee injuries have ended his 12-year NBA career, Smits can volunteer to play without any cost to the national team other than transportation and other expenses.

“It’s something to look forward to, something to stay in shape for,” Smits said.
