Dodgers Up the Creek Without a Clue

Dear Bob Daly,

With regard to your comment about not being able to “live with an organization that does not completely row in the same direction,” remember this: There are those who make the boat, there are those who row the boat, and there are those who say “What boat?” That’s Kevin Malone.

It is clearly not my intention to sound like an apologist for Kevin Malone. Believe me, he has proved he still has no clue. But let’s remember the farm system and roster he inherited from the dearly sainted O’Malleys. He has done nothing to improve on it, but I’m getting tired of hearing how great it was in the old days. It sounds like a bunch of old Russians wishing the Commies were back in power. Remember, nobody put a gun to Peter O’Malley’s head when he sold to Fox.

After reading that the team of Jackie Robinson, Al Campanis, and Davey Lopes is bringing in Eddie Murray, Willie Randolph, and other candidates, I say talk is cheap! What does it cost to bring in a candidate for an interview? A few thousand dollars and a waste of the minority applicant’s time. Not to mention the anguish and hurt that the person feels when he finds out that the job is going to be given to another white manager who is being recycled. The team of my boyhood dreams has turned into the same thing as all other baseball teams--a place for retreads like Kevin Kennedy.
