A 25-year-old woman was killed when a pickup truck sideswiped one car and slammed head-on into her car early Saturday, Los Angeles police said.

The woman, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The driver of the truck, Eric Vargo, 28, was arrested and booked on a charge of vehicular manslaughter, police spokesman Don Cox said.

The accident occurred about 1:30 a.m. at Sunland Boulevard and Nohles Drive.

Cox said Vargo was driving north on Sunland when his truck drifted into the southbound lanes and sideswiped a Saturn, which hit a guardrail and flipped over on its roof, he said. After striking the Saturn, the truck collided with the car driven by the victim, who was traveling alone, Cox said.

The Saturn’s occupants, described by witnesses as three or four women, abandoned the car and are being sought on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Cox said.
