P.A. Cheers Cost Redskins
The NFL fined the Washington Redskins $20,000 for breaking noise-control rules by using their public-address system for cheerleading during the team’s victory over Tampa Bay on Oct. 1.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday that league officials imposed the fine on Oct. 9. The NFL is also investigating whether the Redskins committed a similar violation during last week’s game against Baltimore.
“We’re looking into the same issue concerning the Ravens’ game, the crowd-noise violation,” Aiello told the Washington Post. “It has not been resolved. This is a separate matter.”
Washington has 20 days to appeal the fine and a team source told the Post the Redskins would do so, arguing they didn’t use their P.A. system any differently than other teams.
A Redskin spokesman said the offense targeted during the Tampa Bay game occurred when the announcer shouted something to the effect of: “It’s third down! Redskins fans, come on and get up and cheer.”

The New York Jets signed rookie fullback-tight end Jake Moreland from their practice squad and waived veteran wide receiver Vincent Brisby.
Moreland, from Western Michigan, signed with the Jets as a free agent following the draft. He was waived before the season opener.
Brisby had four receptions for 60 yards in three games with the Jets.
