Santa Ana Halts Win Streak for Cypress Women’s Soccer

Santa Ana tied Cypress, 1-1, in an Orange Empire Conference women’s soccer game Tuesday at Cal State Fullerton, ending Cypress’ 49-game winning streak.

Santa Ana (10-4-5, 6-2-2 in conference) took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute on a goal by Ana Velazquez during a scramble in front of the net. Cypress (19-0-1, 9-0-1) avoided its first loss in 73 games when Katie Eatherton headed in a crossing pass from Breanne Crowley in the 81st minute.

In other Orange Empire Conference women’s games:

Fullerton 1, Golden West 0--Maricruz Cerda scored in the 59th minute off an assist from Nicole Widack for visiting Fullerton (4-11-2, 2-6-2).

Orange Coast 2, Santiago Canyon 0--Andrea Corkhill scored in the 76th minute and Kristen Hamman scored two minutes later for Orange Coast (12-6-1, 7-3).

In Orange Empire men’s soccer:

Golden West 3, Fullerton 1--Juan Espinoza’s goal in the 71st minute broke a 1-1 tie for Golden West (6-9-1, 3-6-1). Espinoza scored his second goal in the 84th minute. Fullerton is 7-6-4, 5-4-1.

Irvine Valley 2, Riverside 2--Sam Omwanghe and Yigal Kerzenbaum scored for host Irvine Valley (7-7-3, 4-4-3). Riverside is 3-7-4, 2-6-1.

Orange Coast 4, Santiago Canyon 0--Host OCC (11-3-4, 7-2-1), outshot Santiago Canyon, 31-9.
