A 47-year-old Fresno woman has been charged with elder abuse after authorities found her mother covered with feces and urine.

“She’s in bad shape. She may die,” said sheriff’s Det. Mike Robinson, who added that paramedics had to cut Mary Green’s soiled clothes off her body.

Her daughter, Cynthia Green, has been charged with felony elder abuse and giving a false name to a peace officer. She is being held without bail because of a previous conviction for petty theft, jail officials said.

Robinson said detectives also plan to investigate whether Green misused her mother’s money.

Green’s house was surrounded by knee-high grass and junk. Stench overwhelmed visitors at the front door. Inside the home, the floor was covered with dog feces and urine, Robinson said.

The refrigerator oozed black liquids. What little food was found inside the home was moldy or inedible, Robinson said. But there was a 50-pound bag of dog food.

Neighbors hadn’t seen Mary Green in almost a year.
