Stanford, Miami on Titan Baseball Schedule

Cal State Fullerton will open its 2001 baseball season Jan. 30 at Pepperdine, then host Stanford in a three-game series Feb. 2-4.

The schedule also features three-game series at home against Brigham Young and Arizona State, and road series against Miami, Baylor and Houston. Fullerton will play USC and UCLA each twice.

The Titans host the Kia Baseball Bash March 2-4 with Tennessee, Wichita State and Long Beach State also in the field.

Feb. 2-4, vs. Stanford; 6, at USC; 9-11, at Baylor; 13, vs. Loyola Marymount; 15-17, vs. Brigham Young; 23-25, vs. Arizona State; 27, vs. UCLA.

COLLEGES

Eleven former Golden West College athletes have made commitments to four-year schools, the school announced this week.

Dani Garcia, a shortstop on the softball team, will play at UC Riverside. Catcher Jenn McCann is headed for Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Kelly Medlen will play for the women’s basketball team at Redlands and former teammate Amy Pace has chosen Missouri Valley College. Men’s basketball players Billy Curry and Matt Horvath are going to Cal State Monterey Bay.

Five former Rustler track athletes are headed to four-year schools. Juan Columbie, who competes in the shotput, and heptathlete Katy Zimmon will attend Long Beach State; long jumper Huong Lam is headed for UCLA; Kelley Saunders will compete in the weights for UC San Diego and distance runner Beckie Sweatman will go to Azusa Pacific.
