MICHAEL VICK

Quarterback, Virginia Tech

“Where’s that storm we were supposed to get?” asked Akron Coach Lee Owens after Vick completed seven of 11 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed eight times for 102 yards and two touchdowns in Virginia Tech’s 52-23 victory. Vick’s season debut was delayed one week after lightning forced the cancellation of the Hokies’ game against Georgia Tech last Sunday.

Brees completed passes to 10 different receivers, going 25 for 42 for 318 yards and three touchdowns in Purdue’s 48-0 victory over Central Michigan. “I need to improve on my accuracy,” said Brees, who will be helped in that respect when leading receiver Vinny Sutherland returns from a one-game suspension.

ERIC CROUCH

Quarterback, Nebraska

Crouch, who led Nebraska with 180 carries last season, had only eight against San Jose State, but scored three touchdowns in a 49-13 victory. “If I get the ball 25 times a game and we’re successful, fine. If I get the ball five times in a game, that’s fine,” said Crouch, who scored on runs of six, four and nine yards and also passed for a touchdown.
