The Trabuco Creek Bikeway Bridge, an essential piece of the bike trail that will eventually connect Cleveland National Forest to Doheny State Beach, will be formally opened at 10 a.m. today.

The dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony will be hosted by county Supervisor Tom Wilson and attended by Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Assemblyman Bill Campbell (R-Villa Park) and Mayor Debra H. Lewis.

The bridge, which spans the Foothill Transportation Corridor, will connect the three miles of trail that follow Trabuco Creek through O’Neill Regional Park to a new section of trail that leads to Santa Margarita Parkway.

Tim Miller, the operations superintendent for the county’s department of harbors, beaches and parks, said the next phase of construction will connect the trail to Tijeras Creek Golf Club. The trail then will head down to Antonio Parkway and into Ladera Ranch.
