Paulescu Does It All for Heralds

Junior Sam Paulescu was a star in every facet of the game as he led Whittier Christian to a 31-0 victory over the Army and Navy Academy of Carlsbad Friday night at Brea Olinda High School.

On offense, Paulescu scored two touchdowns on passes of 56 and 28 yards.

On defense, he intercepted two passes, returning one of them 32 yards for a touchdown.

And on special teams, Paulescu kicked a 43-yard field goal and all four extra points, bringing his scoring total for the evening to 25 points.

Whittier Christian’s only other touchdown came with 4:09 remaining in the second quarter when Anthony Ruiz ran 30 yards on a reverse around the right side.

“We played hard,” said Mike Roark, Whittier Christian’s first-year coach. “We’ve been working our tails off, and it’s good to see our hard work pay off.”

The leading rusher for the Heralds was David Jones, who picked up 101 yards in 12 carries. Quarterback Abraham Santos completed four of five passes for 112 yards.

Tiago Alkana was Army-Navy’s leading rusher with 76 yards in 16 carries. Joe Markham completed two of three passes for 21 yards.
