Book Commemorates Tallships Festival

A limited commemorative edition of Doris Walker’s “Dana Point Harbor--Capistrano Bay: Home Port for Romance” will honor the Ocean Institute’s Tallships Festival and the 150th anniversary of California statehood.

The limited edition is available at the Ocean Institute in Dana Point Harbor and at the Tallships Festival, which winds up its weekend run at the institute today.

Walker’s recent book, “The Heritage of San Clemente,” was named Best Historical Book in this year’s California Media Professionals’ communications contest. She is working on “Tall Ships and Spanish Spice on the Citrus Coast,” which will trace the history of wind-powered ships along the Southern California coast. (Copies of the first edition will arrive during the Tallships Festival next year aboard the Pilgrim, a full-sized re-creation of the square-rigged ship that brought Richard Henry Dana to this coast in 1835.)

Walker, a member of the Orange County Historical Commission, will sign copies of her limited edition book at the Ocean Institute, in the northwest corner of the harbor, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, from 1 to 4 p.m. today.

See, Leslie to Speak
