Automatic. Or nearly, anyway.

That’s Kennedy kicker David Franco.

He might not have the strongest leg in the City--Johan Colocho of Van Nuys and Tom Colley of Chatsworth boom the ball--but Franco regularly puts it between the uprights.

And he gets lots of opportunity with the high-scoring Cougars. Franco made seven of eight PATs and his only field goal try in Kennedy’s 66-22 victory over Poly.

“David is consistent, and that’s the most important quality in a kicker,” Coach Bob Francola said.

Franco made 42 of 46 PATs and two of four field goals last year.

“He’s improved,” Francola said. “His leg is stronger.”

And then there was light.

Cleveland’s new stadium lights shone brightly in a test, so the Cavaliers’ home opener will proceed as scheduled tonight at 7. The game would have been played in the afternoon had the lights failed.
