Mater Dei will take its third crack in three years at breaking Concord De La Salle’s winning streak. When the teams met two years ago, the streak had reached 78. Last year, it was 90. Now, it’s a national-record 102. “I don’t know if this is the year we’re going to beat them,” Monarch Coach Bruce Rollinson said, “but I’ll tell you what--this is the year we’re going to give it a pretty good shot.” It won’t be easy. The Spartans return quarterback Matt Gutierrez, who lit up the Mater Dei defense for 300 yards and six touchdowns in last year’s 42-0 rout.
