SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO

Speaking of this year’s Hootenanny, while many of the acts had the pomaded crowd cheering, only one had them in awe: Scotty Moore, the seminal guitarist who helped create the sound of rock ‘n’ roll in the astounding Sun Records sessions he did in the 1950s with Elvis Presley and bassist Bill Black. Moore returns, sitting in again with latter-day rockabilly bassist Lee Rocker, for this show in San Juan Capistrano.

* Lee Rocker & Scotty Moore, Coach House, 33157 Camino Capistrano. With Redneck Role Models. 8 p.m. $17.50 to $19.50. (949) 496-8930.

One of the big dramatic moments expected at the upcoming Country Music Assn. Awards show is whether the George Strait-Alan Jackson duet “Murder on Music Row,” a song that bemoans the vanishing sense of respect for country music tradition, will win either as vocal event or song of the year. Alan Jackson fans also will be waiting to hear whether he includes it at his concert Saturday at the Pond.

“Along El Camino Real” is a new Irvine Museum exhibition that features many of California’s 21 missions in art. Most of the works are by noted Impressionist painters who worked in the state, including Alexander Harmer. The earliest views of the missions include a set of etchings by Henry Chapman Ford. The painters were active from the 1890s to the mid-1930s.
