Troy Aikman, who has missed two games after his ninth concussion, will be back in the starting lineup for Dallas against San Francisco Sunday.

Cowboy owner Jerry Jones said that, based on a post-practice evaluation of Aikman, the quarterback would indeed start.

“There is no reason at this time to delay him from competing,” Jones said.

The suspension comes after Muhammad was convicted last month of one count of domestic battery in connection with an incident that occurred 10 days before his wife died of childbirth complications. He was placed on one year of probation and ordered to perform community service and participate in domestic violence counseling.

The attorney for former Cleveland Brown offensive tackle Orlando Brown said the NFL is responsible for the eye injury that might have ended the lineman’s career.

Clifford Stern, the attorney Brown hired after he was hit in the eye by a penalty flag last season, wouldn’t say whether they had decided to sue the league, although he added, “They didn’t hire us to paint a house or make curtains.”

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it was premature for the league to comment.

Brown, 29, was released by the Browns on Tuesday.

Philadelphia signed free-agent safety Je’Rod Cherry for the rest of the season, one day after Pro Bowl safety Brian Dawkins underwent an appendectomy. . . . Chicago center Olin Kreutz will miss Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions with a sprained ligament in his left knee. . . . Carolina punter Ken Walter had surgery on his right shoulder but isn’t expected to miss any playing time.

Buffalo’s Jonathan Linton, who was limited to special teams play while recovering from a rib injury, will replace Antowain Smith as the starting running back following the Bills’ bye week when they play host to Indianapolis Oct. 1. The Bills also announced that rookie linebacker Corey Moore will miss up to six weeks because of a high ankle sprain. . . . Despite a winless start, New England Coach Bill Belichick is standing behind quarterback Drew Bledsoe. “He’s our quarterback, and he’s certainly one of the best players on the team,” Belichick said. “I’m glad we have him. He’s a guy who has been and is going to be productive for us.”
