Hart Moving Up Rapidly in Polls

Hart moved from No. 10 to No. 6 in this week’s Student Sports national rankings.

The Indians (14-1), who swept a nonleague doubleheader against Agoura on Monday, are scheduled to face defending national champion Santa Ana Foothill on Saturday in the semifinals of the Foothill tournament.

Foothill rose one spot to No. 1 in this week’s national poll.

The Indians moved into the top spot of The Times’ rankings of teams from the region.

One slip might have cost sophomore Krystle Chamberlain of Calabasas a perfect career of crime.

Chamberlain stole 34 bases without being thrown out as a freshman, but she was called out two weeks ago at the San Fernando Valley tournament, when she over-slid a base she had stolen.

If not for that play, Chamberlain would have entered the week with 53 consecutive stolen bases.

It doesn’t seem to have affected her play.

The speedy leadoff hitter has 19 stolen bases in 11 games and is batting .435, including .706 in five Frontier League games.

“She’s tearing up our league,” Coach Barbara Hofer said.
