Ballet

The Moscow-based Russian National Ballet, led by former Bolshoi principal dancer Sergei Radchenko, will stage a full-length production of “Swan Lake” on Friday at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. The ballet tells the tragic story of the swan maiden Odette, her Prince Siegfried and an evil sorcerer.

Astronomy

The Ventura County Astronomical Society will celebrate National Astronomy Day on Saturday at the Mervyn’s parking lot in Simi Valley. The daytime activities will include displays, demonstrations, solar observing and more. An evening function at the Moorpark College observatory will include a lecture and telescope viewing.

Jazz

San Buenaventura Friends of the Library will continue its Ventura Jazz Concerts series with the Jonathan Dane Quartet on Saturday. The young trumpeter’s group features noted pianist Kei Akagi, who has performed with Miles Davis, Stanley Turrentine, Flora Purim and Airto Moreira, among other jazz greats.

Cook-Off

Conejo Valley Days will present its 26th annual chili cook-off Sunday at Conejo Creek Park in Thousand Oaks. The regional event, sanctioned by the International Chili Society, attracts cooks from all over California and beyond who vie for a chance to move on to the state championship.
