Chief Named to Troubled Elections Department

The city has hired yet another director for its problem-ridden Elections Department. Tammy Haygood, an attorney with no elections experience, has been asked to head the department, which is in the middle of a fraud investigation.
Haygood, 42, is the city’s fifth elections chief to be appointed in the last six years.
Former elections Director Patricia Fado, who resigned July 20, was accused of signing time cards improperly and inadequately disclosing the number of accounted for ballots from the November 2000 election.
Phillip Paris, acting elections director is under investigation for allegedly using his office illegally for fund-raising activities.
