Two men died and a woman and a teenage boy were critically injured early Monday in Pacoima when their car veered off a freeway ramp and crashed onto the street 50 feet below, authorities said.

The accident occurred at 4:50 a.m. when the car, a Honda Civic, was making the transition from the northbound Golden Gate Freeway to the eastbound Ronald Reagan Freeway and swerved into a four-foot concrete wall on the left side of the transition road, authorities said.

The car landed on its roof near Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Paxton Street, said California Highway Patrol Officer Rosa Ray.

“There was some pretty good speed there,” said CHP Officer Vincent Bell, adding that investigators had not determined how fast the car was traveling.

The dead included the driver, a 51-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger, a man in his mid-20s, Bell said. The injured, a woman in her 30s and a 15-year-old boy, were taken to area hospitals and are expected to survive, Bell said.

The names of the deceased were being withheld by authorities pending notification of their families, Bell said.
