From Times Staff Reports

The pilot of a two-seat helicopter made an emergency landing on a shoulder of the northbound Ventura Freeway in Thousand Oaks on Sunday morning after his engine lost power, authorities said.

Philip Vickery, 41, of Santa Monica was flying with a passenger, Renee Barbieri of Van Nuys, about 11 a.m. when the rented Robinson R-22 helicopter’s warning system alerted them to an engine failure, said Sgt. John Novak of the California Highway Patrol.

Vickery had rented the helicopter at Long Beach Airport and was preparing to land at Camarillo Airport when he lost power, Novak said. Neither person on board was injured.
