Goossen Is Out With America Presents
Dan Goossen, president of the America Presents boxing organization, abruptly resigned Thursday afternoon after a disagreement with Matt Tinley, the CEO whose family money bankrolled the organization.
The end came after Tinley flew from his Denver headquarters to Goossen’s Las Vegas home to discuss the future of America Presents following a recent series of setbacks.
Problems have arisen with all of the organization’s major fighters.
Former two-time heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who has one fight left with America Presents, remains in limbo, his latest fight postponed because of a back injury.
Heavyweight contender David Tua lost last Saturday to Chris Byrd. Welterweight Hector Camacho Jr.’s last fight ended in controversy with a no-contest ruling. Super-middleweight David Reid has struggled in recent outings against lesser opposition.
Neither Goossen nor Tinley were available for comment late Thursday.
Goossen, who grew up in the San Fernando Valley, founded Ten Goose Boxing, a Valley-based organization that flourished in the ‘80s, and then briefly worked for Bob Arum’s Top Rank group before helping to found America Presents in 1996.
